THAI AIR ASIA OFFERS NEW BANGKOK-RANONG DIRECT FLIGHTS

Thai AirAsia’s Bangkok-Ranong direct flights have been in operation since the inaugural flight on 23 November 2007. The new Bangkok-Ranong service is available three times a week — on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The route is served by Boeing 737-300 aircraft, with 148 seats per flight.

Situated 568 kilometres from Bangkok, Ranong is the first southern province on the west coast and serves as the southern ‘gateway’ to the Andaman. With over 60 per cent of the province being mountainous and heavily forested, Ranong is known for its natural beauty, its waterfalls and natural hot springs. The province of Ranong shares its western border with neighbouring Myanmar. The Kra Isthmus, the narrow strip of land that connects the Malay Peninsula to the Asian mainland, is situated 66 kilometres northeast of the Ranong provincial centre. The isthmus lies between the Gulf of Thailand to the east and the Andaman Sea to the west. The Kra provides an excellent vantage point from which to see the Kra Buri River which forms a natural boundary between Thailand and Myanmar. Ranong also serves as the boarding point for boat-trips to Victoria Point, (also known as Koh Sawng in Thai and Kawthoung in Burmese), an island in neighbouring Myanmar.

Thai AirAsia introduced its low fare, no-frills concept in February 2004. The Bangkok-based airline now flies to 11 domestic and 10 international destinations. It revolutionized air travel in the region by offering low fares through its innovative sales channels.

With the tagline 'Now everyone can fly', Thai AirAsia’s philosophy of low fares is aimed at making flying affordable for everyone. Thai AirAsia also aims to make travel easy, convenient and fun for its guests. To date, Thai AirAsia has carried over 8 million guests.

In September 2006, Thai AirAsia moved its services from Don Muang Airport to the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport. It is the only low fare airline that operates both domestic and international flights at Bangkok’s only international airport, providing better convenience and easier flight connections for its guests.

The phenomenal growth of Thai AirAsia reflects its vision to become an ASEAN brand. As a leading low fare airline in the region, Thai AirAsia is the epitome of ASEAN with its rich cultures and wealth of resources. The airline further aspires to bring low fare travel to the people of Southeast Asia, and to encourage and boost trade and tourism among countries in the region.

Thai AirAsia’s fleet now includes 14 Boeing 737-300 aircraft. It has ordered 40 brand new Airbus A320 aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery over a five-year period with the delivery of the first of these A320s in October 2007. These new aircraft will gradually replace Thai AirAsia’s current Boeing 737-300s.

Asia Aviation Co. Ltd. holds a 50% stake in the airline, AirAsia has 49% and an individual has 1%. Thai AirAsia’s management acquired 100% of the shares of Asia Aviation Co., Ltd. on 22 May 2007.

Low fare, no frills
Thai AirAsia’s fares are significantly lower than those of other operators. This service targets guests who will do without the frills of meals, frequent flyer miles or airport lounges in exchange for fares up to 80% lower than those currently offered with equivalent convenience. No complimentary drinks or meals are offered. Instead, Thai AirAsia offers “Snack Attack,” a range of delicious snacks and drinks available onboard at very affordable prices and prepared exclusively for Thai AirAsia’s guests. Guests have the choice of purchasing food and drinks onboard.
